At the start of a battle, players place an Arena card of their choosing. Both games take place in 3D playing fields. The Wii and DS versions of the game are pretty much the same thing, but with obvious differences in controls. In the actual collectible game you then imagine something cool is happening, but in the anime, and the video game, the ball transforms into a huge scary monster, which usually looks an awful lot like one of numerous famous Digimon. Once the Bakugan ball goes over the target, it springs open, revealing the monster inside. Players throw their Bakugan Ball towards one of the Arena cards, trying to get their ball to roll over it. ![]() The game itself is a cross between marbles and Yu-Gi-Oh. When it comes to an ancient game (marbles) being turned into something rad, Bakugan went all out. ![]() Also the cards freeze time, and maybe transport you to a parallel dimension. Then, after they've solidified the rules, they discover that the cards contain monsters that kick the living hell out of each other. The entire world instantly makes a game based around these mysterious alien space trading cards, and sets up online tournaments. ![]() Now I'm only on Volume 1 of my Bakugan: Battle Brawlers DVD set, so I don't know the intricacies of the storyline, but here's the gist: Cards float down from space, landing in people's yards, on their pillows, and in their breakfast cereal boxes.
